MISSION

Volunteers With A Purpose is a non-profit organization (IRS 501(c)(3) status pending) whose mission is to match non-profit organizations with fund-raising opportunities with recreational events.

HISTORY

The Volunteers With A Purpose program was created by Timberline Events LLC of Englewood, CO. The purpose was to involve local non-profit organizations with Timberline Events' team distance relay races: the Wild West Relay in Colorado, and the Green Mountain Relay in Vermont.

In order to ensure that the relays are quality events, over 200 volunteers are needed to act as race marshals during the relays. As both relay routes travels through rural areas, it was necessary to enlist the help of the participating teams to make the staging of the relays possible. Therefore, all teams were required to choose one of the two options to help with the staffing of volunteers:

  1. to recruit friends or family to be volunteers
  2. make a tax-deductible donation (IRS 501(c)(3) status pending) to Volunteers With A Purpose. These funds go to local non-profit organizations that volunteer during the relay as a fund-raising opportunity.

Funds donated to VWAP are then passed on to local non-profit organizations that volunteer to be race marshals during the relay as a fund-raising opportunity. To date, over $31,000 has been raised and distributed to non-profit organizations in Colorado and Vermont.
